Yesterday, the social worker from Germany arrived. Pedro picked him up from the airport, got him settled at the apartment on our school campus and last night he met with the other American couple who is adopting. Today it was our turn.
After lunch at a Chilean restaurant, we returned home and continued discussing everything from which letterhead to write the homestudy on, to how exactly the twins become US citizens, to the nitty gritty of finances. The details of our lives and family had been shared via a lengthy questionnaire prior to his visit, so it wasn't necessary to take much time to revisit those. It also didn't take long to tour our house, but I think it passed inspection! We actually enjoyed talking with our SW and hearing about his travels to other parts of the world (he has been doing this for almost 20 years.)
We are very grateful that he recognizes the urgency of getting the homestudy done quickly in order to expedite our dossier. He actually plans to have it written by tomorrow! The last piece of the puzzle has to do with the letterhead it is written on and by whom and where it will be notarized. Wherever it is notarized, that is where it must be state/locally authenticated. And wherever it is state/locally authenticated, that is where it must be Haitian authenticated. He could possibly do it in Germany, but that would throw a fourth country into the mix! And he could possibly do it on his next trip to the States, but that is not until May so it would be too much of a delay.
The most expedited way of doing this will be to have the homestudy printed on our agency letterhead, reviewed and co-signed before a notary by their own social worker. We are waiting on their answer and will call tomorrow, but please pray that they will do this so we can continue moving full steam ahead!
Also, please pray that the psychologist and doctor will have their documents ready for us by Monday or Tuesday so we can pursue the legalization/authentication/Haitian authentication of those on Thursday (the one day Pedro and I both have free now that our teaching ministries have started!)
Thank you!
