Encouragement from a friend

Yesterday I received an e-mail from Melody, a new friend I have made through the course of this adoption. Her adorable daughter Addi was also adopted internationally, and as Melody described:

She too would have scored a 0 on her Apgar. Her body was completely limp. The only reflex she still had was a slight sucking reflex. She only weighed six pounds and was nearing 4 months, and her eyes weren't focusing.

Recently Melody and Addi has the most beautiful conversation, and Melody shared it with me to encourage me during this time of waiting and separation from our children in Haiti:

My daughter Addi told me recently, Mommy you remember when I was a little baby. I said "yes". She said "you were not there mom when I was a really little baby" I was surprised since we openly talk about adoption, but never about the absence of a parent only the presence of other parents. She continued, "you were not there, but Jesus was, I remember Mommy" She then hugged her arms close to herself and rocked back and forth, "he held me like this," she said. I agonized so many nights praying for my babies and longing to hold them, and Jesus himself was being a faithful companion to her. I pray that Jesus will guard your babies' hearts and keep them company.

Ahhh, thanks for posting this Steph. I still wonder about the 8 days of Emme's life before we got the call and saw her for the first time. How comforting to remember that Jesus is always with our children even when we cannot be. I'm sure he is holding your sweet little boys.
