Daniela's Story

Tonight I viewed a beautiful video created by adoptive parents who recently brought their daughter Daniela home from Haiti. I encourage you to click the link and see it for yourself. The video chronicles all the time they have known her, their visits to Haiti to see her, and finally her homecoming. While on the one hand it made my heart ache to witness the months and years slip by (since I can relate to that so well) on the other hand it was simply amazing and joyful to witness Daniela finally at home.

The song that plays throughout the video was written by Aaron Ivey, who along with his wife Jamie are adopting son Amos and daughter Story from Haiti. Their adoption is often heavy on my heart, as their process is being handled by the same people as ours and they have been working on bringing their children home even longer than we have. The lyrics to Aaron's song are beautiful and describe the emotions of trying to bring their children home:

Another photograph to wrestle in my head
Another sleepless night on concrete featherbed
These thoughts of you like bullets to my soul
We’ve got to find a way to get you home

I’ll find a way to get you here
If it takes my fleeting breath
Another sunrise hits the ground
And it’s a dark lonely sight
Lightyears away I hope you know
There is somebody searching
For the way to get you here

I will get you here

Throw the clocks away and run out to the street
We’ll fly to distant clouds where it’s just you and me
A day will come when all of this is gone
You’ve got to find a way to believe

I’ll find a way to get you here
If it takes my fleeting breath
Another sunrise hits the ground
And it’s a dark lonely sight
Lightyears away I hope you know
There is somebody searching
For the way to get you here
I will get you here

Close your eyes and dream of a better day with me
As angels hold you tight, may you sleep in peace tonight

So dream, dream, dream my child
Hear the whisperings of hope
It’s a song that you can sing, as you sleep in peace tonight

Loved that...thanks for sharing. That will be hands down the best airplane trip any of us will ever have!

Thanks Stephanie. Amanda, it was a great plane ride! I couldn't do anything but look at her the entire trip. I pray for all you families who are still waiting. The wait makes homecoming day that much sweeter. Be strong, and know your children will be home soon.
