The other day we were in the waiting room of the Teleton, where Isabel receives her physical and occupational therapies. Another mom was also there with a seemingly unresponsive older child who appeared to have severe physical and mental challenges and who was confined to a wheelchair. Suddenly Ian left the area where he was playing with his brother and approached the mother and child. He reached out to take the child's hand in his and gently stroked it as the mother spoke softly to him. I was so touched by this evidence of compassion in Ian. I have noted it before and hope that compassion will always form an integral part of his character. He is truly our "sweet Ian."

Oh what a wonderful moment to have witnessed! The loving touch of another child must have meant so much to this child and his mother. I am sure that this other boy has been stared at & made fun of, many times. A loving touch can mean so much when someone is lonely and in pain. I love the way Ian expressed the love of God to this child. How often do we reach out and touch others with the hands of Christ? I also give thanks to God for you & Pedro. You have shown the love of God to your children each day, so they can show God's love to those around them.
Even at a young age, Ian is showing the love of Jesus through his compassionate heart. I'm sure that meant a lot to that mother and her child. What a sweetheart!

This blog was created to chronicle our family's journey to adopt our fourth child, a little boy from Haiti. Long before knowing him, we chose his name: Ian, meaning "God is gracious." Along the way our journey grew to include not only one, but two little boys from Haiti!
Ian and Alec finally arrived home on January 19, 2010.

oh those precious strands of gold woven into the fiber of their beings. . . praise God He has given you that moment to pray on for years to come!
You know that moment probably gave that mother a little more hope in the world knowing that there are kind souls like your sweet Ian.
