Pharmacies, Vaccines and Bills ... Oh My!!

that top prescription is for Chloroquine,
which we'll be taking once a week for five weeks against malaria

those bottom papers are the bills for vaccines ... ouch!!

Today we spent a couple of hours at the hospital, receiving vaccines (Hep A & B & Tetanus) and prescriptions for medications such as Chloroquine (for malaria) and also for imported mosquito repellent for skin and clothing with DEET (that was a pricey purchase!) per our doctor's indications.

I say "our" doctor but really he is our children's doctor ... Pedro and I don't have a primary care physician but fortunately the kids' doctor is awesome and also happens to specialize in infectious diseases, so he really came through for us!

We had received mixed messages about whether these vaccines were necessary or not, but considering the recent devastation in Haiti with its accompanying health concerns we felt it was better to be safe than sorry. One vaccine we did not get was Typhoid; the doctor said in his opinion it was rather a nasty shot and that if we were careful to drink bottled water and fully cooked foods, we should be okay. We appreciate your prayers for safety and health on this long-anticipated trip!
