When All You Can Do Is Trust

Today I learned of the suspension of all adoptions in Liberia.

It broke my heart because of the many families I have encountered who have adopted beautiful children from this war-torn nation, and even more so for those who are currently in process and facing this terrible heartbreak and uncertainty of whether their children will ever come home.

Today I read of one family's adoption from Uganda.

It interested me because I requested information from Uganda prior to our choosing to adopt from Haiti. At the time, Uganda seemed so far out of reach because of the costs and the distance and the length of time it would take to adopt. As it turns out, this family was able to adopt two children in six months, probably for less than what our adoption will cost in the end.

Today I considered the uncertainties of our own process, the length of time it has taken, the expenses that add up month after month. I thought of another adoptive mom who started the same process from the same orphanage around the same time as us, whose baby will probably be home this week or next. I longed to be able to say the same.

This is when all you can do is trust ... trust that this was the path God ordained ... trust that He will overcome insurmountable odds ... trust that someday it will be our kids coming home. It isn't easy. It hurts. Sometimes it's overwhelming.

But someday ... someday ... it will all be worth it.
