Acting Their Age

After two months at home, my boys are finally starting to act their age. Sometimes that's good, sometimes that's bad. Not too long ago a babysitter asked me, "Do they ever get into things? Because they didn't really seem to get into anything while we were here."

If only things had stayed that way!

Yesterday morning I allowed the boys in the back patio against my better judgment. It has been a little chilly in the mornings here and Ian is starting to get a cold. I knew the first place they would head was the pool, but since we've started emptying it my husband assured me the water level would be too low for them to reach.

It wasn't.

Before long there were two drenched and shivering little boys in need of a warm bath and clean clothes. I didn't sweat it too much since they were still in their pajamas and needed to be cleaned up anyway. But when half an hour later the boys discovered a bucket of soapy water and Ian soaked himself from head to toe again, I was not too happy!

It must be a water thing for Ian because today after lunch I left both boys in their high chairs for a couple of minutes with their sippy cups, and next thing I knew Ian had poured the contents of his cup all over his tray and down the front of his shirt.

Alec, on the other hand is a little grabber. Whatever is at his eye level he assumes is his property - be it deodorant, keys, toys, etc. It is very rare to see him walking around without something in his hand as he almost always has a death grip on whatever has caught his fancy at the moment. (And I'm not joking about the death grip - it is hard to get things away from this boy! He is so strong.)

Despite their mischievous ways, the boys do get cuter every day. The latest phase we are going through is the "sorry" phase. Multiple times a day the boys will do something rough - to me, to each other, to a sibling - and almost immediately follow with petting the affected person and saying "Sawry, sawry." It's cute but after the fifteenth epidos of being scratched and hearing "sawry" I tell the boys I wish they would be sorry enough to not to it in the first place and save themselves the apology!

I guess over the past few years we forgot just how challenging the "terrible twos" can be - and really, ours are not that terrible. They're just busy! and sometimes frustrating! but also lots of FUN. And I don't suppose it's fair to blame them when after all, they are just ... acting their age. :)

Sounds just like Steven! He also has to say he's sorry quite often, and each time, he also has to say sorry to Jesus too for not obeying Him. I too keep reminding myself that's he's acting like a two year old :(

Enjoyed catching up here. I am so glad you're enjoying your *double trouble* and *double blessings* :~)

I, too, forgot what 2 was like! So indecisive, emotional, wanting to be big, wanting to be a baby....but all such a blessing. And the long wait makes the 2's more tolerable!
