The funny thing about Alec is that he comes across as very, very serious the first time you meet him. When he is in a new situation he sort of shuts down and just takes everything in with his big dark eyes. His seriousness is especially noticeable because in contrast his brother can be so outgoing. Most people who haven't had the chance to get to know Alec assume that his personality is as solemn as it appears - but that couldn't be farther from the truth.
I love this picture because it captures the wild enthusiasm that in my opinion, is more characteristic of who Alec is. He is ALL BOY. He gets excited about anything that is rough and tumble - wrestling, soccer, sword fighting, you name it. And when he gets wound up, watch out! He is strong and crazy. He also has the best laugh (well, maybe tied with his sister Isabel!) He laughs with such gusto that it makes everyone else smile, too.
This picture was taken when Alec and Ian were playing cars with Owen. Big brother was showing his little brothers how to really get them to take off down the incline of the driveway, and as you can see Alec totally got into the action. He watched that car fly down and shrieked in excitement, every muscle of his body tight with anticipation.
It gives me so much joy to watch our childrens' personalities blossom, and our two newest arrivals are no exception. Each one is so unique and so special. God has great things in store for them!
